Due to generous donations throughout Maine, Honor Flight Maine has secured 99 seats on a Southwest Airlines flight from Portland to Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport departing Friday 27 October, touring Washington DC on Saturday and returning Sunday 29 October. At the present time, we have a LOT of seats available for veterans and guardians. Sadly, this will probably be the last opportunity for many of our terminally ill and WWII Veterans, so any help we might receive in spreading the word would be greatly appreciated. This will be the “last hurrah” for many of our veterans/patients.
I respectfully ask your advice in how to best publicize this free trip throughout the VISN. Selection priority is as follows:
- Any terminally ill Veteran.
- WWII Veteran
- Korean Veteran
- Vietnam Veteran
Trip includes all meals, tee shirt, lodging (BWI Hilton), ground transportation and airfare. The sites we see include the WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Air Force, Iwo Jima and Navy Memorials. We also attend a changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington.
Guardians (attendants who escort and care for the Veterans) are asked to make a tax-deductible contribution of $500 to Honor Flight Maine in order to help cover our expenses of their trip. If anyone has any questions, they can visit the web site www.honorflightmaine . Veteran and guardian applications can be found there as well.
