AMVETS Non Profit

1024 pending approval

Letter to IRS to forgive fine.-1

Copy of Post not on EOBMF

The IRS has a master file available to the public to search for all nonprofits by state. It is the Exempt Organization Business Master File (EOBMF) EOBMF Link

We completed a comparison of all AMVETS Post and Dept EINs to the IRS EOBMF list and found 200 posts not on the list. The list is attached. The Posts in red are canteens. The IRS tends to look closer at canteens. You can double check the information by going to the EOBMF list . After determining a post is not on the list you can go to the select check and search revoked and it will show when and where the revocation was sent. Select Check Link

If you are on this list you have lost your nonprofit status. To get reinstated as a nonprofit you complete an IRS 1024 form ( sample attached). If you don’t have $400 modify the attached letter.

When a post is formed an EIN determination letter is received from the IRS. We fax the EIN # on the letter to the IRS and it places your Post under our Group Exemption Number and you are then a 501c19 nonprofit. You are required to file a 990 each year. If you don’t file for 3 years you lose your nonprofit status.

When is Form 990 due?

Form 990 is due on the 15th day of the 5th month following the end of the organization’s taxable year. For organizations on a calendar year, the Form 990 is due on May 15th of the following year.

If you need assistance with the 1024 or have already submitted it let me know.
