Breakfasts this season have been well attended and have resulted in meeting our charity goals for Toys for Tots, Biddeford High School Continuing Education Grants, and Pre-deployment Stipends for Biddeford High School seniors who enlist in our Armed Forces. The March breakfast will wrap up contributions for Biddeford High School. Our last Breakfast, April, is earmarked to donate proceeds to the Department of Maine Service Foundation white Clover Fund.
March 17th April 14th
The next Department of Maine AMVETS Executive Committee meets 11:00 AM Sunday at AMVETS Post 3 in Sanford. This is close and it would be worth attending; let Post 1 have more attending that any other Post – we’re Post 1 for a reason! Let’s keep it that way.
As we move into March, our Post calendars will begin to fill up with plenty of activities as well as projects to upgrade the Post home. We already have most of the material on hand and are planning to completely replace the existing Birch Street entry to the lounge. That project will take place in April or early May. The ground has to be well thawed to do the concrete work. If you want to be involved with that project, please let Tinou know.
Post 1 officer nominations and elections are also just around the corner. Here’s the nomination schedule:
1st Nominations – Sunday, March 24th AMVETS meeting at 9:00 AM
2nd Nominations – Sunday, April 28th AMVETS meeting at 9:00 AM
3rd Nominations – Wednesday, May 8th at 6:00 PM.
If there are any contested positions, an election will take place from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday May 17th. Ballots box will be sealed until Sunday morning May 19th, when they will be counted and the results announced at that AMVETS meeting – 9:00 AM.
Friday night “game nights” at Post 1 is the place to be. Plenty of activity! Games, music, beverages, and an ever changing Friday Night Kitchen Special – don’t miss it! Of course, there’s always room for volunteers to help. Interested, let Tinou know – he’ll find a place for you.
Do you know any teenagers who will be 15 years old this October? If so; how about nominating them for an all-expense paid trip to the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Nominating them is easy to do – and they don’t have to be related to you. For an application, see Gene Foster or ask one of the other officers.
Our next scheduled AMVETS meeting is Sunday, March 17th at 9:00 AM.
