Summer’s about in the books. Post 1 has enjoyed a very pleasant and prosperous summer. But there’s a lot on the table for us
in the coming months. Here’s a quick, short peek:
Monday, September 11. Post 1 is hosting a 9-11 remembrance ceremony at the Biddeford Veterans’ Memorial park on the
corner of Alfred and Pool Streets. It will be a short, solemn ceremony. More information will be available at the post. 9-11 was 16
years ago, not that long and even less time in our memories. Join us as we observe our “Can’t Forget” service.
is POW/MIA Recognition Day. While we haven’t planned any event at this time, please remember that there
are families in Maine who still await word on missing families members who served in the armed forces of America.
Friday nights. Game nights and horseshoes. Always something for everyone. Summer’s short – don’t waste time in front of
your TV. But if TV is really what you want – Post 1 has several, two of them are both HD big screen.
AMVETS Breakfast – they’re back! Sunday, September 17
. Want a great breakfast at bottom dollar prices – AMVETS
breakfasts is where it’s at. If you’d like to help with breakfast – we need you too. Breakfast workers are volunteers but get a free
breakfast and beverage. Bottom line – all proceeds benefit the Biddeford High School scholarships. Please think about helping out by
either buying breakfast or volunteering to help. It all counts!
For your planning purposes, our September AMVETS meeting is Sunday, the 24
The last scheduled D.E.C. meeting is set for Saturday, 7 October at Post 33 in Jay, Maine.
Greetings Veterans, Ladies, and Sons of Post 1:
I hope all is well and that your summer was filled with pleasant and memorable experiences. With the arrival of fall many events
will soon be upon us including monthly breakfasts, 9/11 ceremony, and POW/MIA Recognition Day.
Post 1 is hosting the 9/11 ceremony. For more information, check with postings at the post. Our first breakfast of this season is
Sunday, September 17
. As of this printing, plans for POW/MIA Recognition Day are not complete.
I would like to thank the Ladies and the Sons for putting on a great membership appreciation luncheon. Based on the positive
feedback from our members it went well. Please place on your schedule a tentative date of the second or third Saturday of June 2018
for our next Member Appreciation day.
Membership is the lifeblood of our great organization, should you know a veteran who is not a member please invite them in. If they
want to meet with me personally please have them get in touch with one of our wonderful bar tenders.
Post 1 Shout Out!!!!!
This month I like to personally and publically recognize Mr. Leopold Oscar Roberge, AKA “Meat Man”, for stepping for Norman
Boisvert and doing all the great work he has done with maintaining the post cleanliness. Nice work Meatman!!
I hope to see you at the post soon. If I’m there and we haven’t met, please introduce yourself. I want to talk with all post members.
LADIES AUXILIARY NEWS
The Ladies Auxiliary will have their September meeting on Wednesday, September 6
. We’ve done a lot this summer but now
it’s time to begin thinking about our fall & winter events. In the next few months we have a very good opportunity to step up and
make Post 1 number 1 in Maine!
The Sons of AMVETS Squadron 1 are having a blast every Friday night. Horseshoe competition is the game and there’s
always plenty of burgers & dogs for every appetite. Come on in! Summer is too short to miss these great times!
Our next meeting is Sunday, 17 September at 11 am. Our final horseshoes is Saturday, 30 September. Don’t miss it!
