Tell a Friend
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy holiday season. I would also like to invite you to watch the “America Salutes You” concert that aired over Thanksgiving weekend by clicking here. The concert was a labor of love to express to those who serve, past and present, our appreciation for their sacrifices and those made by their families. I would also like to express my gratitude to the numerous non-profits and associations I have had the honor of working with.  As always, I hope you find the information in the Military Connection newsletter valuable, and share it with those who can benefit from reading it. Wishing you and your loved ones a healthy, prosperous New Year.

Confidential Support

Confidential Support
Program Protects Victim’s Rights

The U.S. Army has developed the Special Victim Counsel Program to protect the rights of sexual assault victims. Special victims’ counsels are specially trained military attorneys, duty-bound to work for no one but the victim. The military now requires that victims reporting an assault be notified of their right to consult with a special victims’ counsel and of the availability of other legal assistance at the time they report a sexual assault. Also, no one in a victim’s chain of command or the accused’s chain of command may influence a special victims’ counsel in providing legal support to a victim. Members who have been affected by sexual assault can access 24/7, confidential, anonymous support through the DOD Safe Helpline by calling 877-995-5247.

The @EASE program strives to bolster military readiness by providing servicemembers with the knowledge that the program has the capacity to manage legal affairs in their absence—putting them “@EASE.” Contact your state’s attorney general to initiate a similar program. Happy 380th !

National Guard 380th Birthday
Celebrating the National Guard

While much has changed since 1636, one thing has not: our country’s National Guard still consists of Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen who provide protection from natural disasters, training regularly to uphold high standards of readiness, and also deploying to far-away countries to protect our nation’s interests abroad. The National Guard remains a community cornerstone, as it has since its inception on December 13, 1636. We thank and appreciate the dedication of the National Guard, and wish them a very happy birthday!
