Post Cmdr Comments: I appreciate the opportunity to serve as Commander of Post 3, and want to thank the Veterans for electing me. The first three months were exhausting at times but having a supportive staff of Officers and Trustees has made it relatively pain free. I am looking forward t the next nine months with enthusiasm. Joanie Vigue has really settled in as Lounge Manager. We work well together to make Post 3 enjoyable and we are trying to accommodate all of the ‘ needs and desires. Second Vice Chuck Kelly has been helping with the entertainment and publicity. A lot of positive comments. I am pleased to announce that our Post subsidizes our Ladies Auxiliary as well as Squadron 3 Sons of AMVETS. In addition, our Post is host to the Marine Corps League, York County Detachment 1341, with Stanley Kramer Detachment Commandant, and the Sanford Lions Club. Our Lounge Trustees will be working with the Lounge Manager, Joan Vigue, and our 2nd Vice Commander, Chuck Kelly, Function Entertainment coordinator. Post Outing was held on August 20th and what a great time was had by all. The Dore/Hubbard/Coady/FISH cookery team provided their culinary skills for an outstanding cookout. _
1st Vice Comments: Membership year is from 01/01/20XX to 12/31/20XX. National sends out dues reminders during the month of June/July for dues to be paid locally at the Post, or by mailing to the Post
or by mailing to the National Office. Your cooperation in maintaining updated address and phone numbers as well as your membership is most deeply appreciated. Karl Huntley, II.
2nd Vice Comments: Commander Markland has delegated Function Entertainment Coordinator. I will be working closely with the Lounge Manager as well as the Lounge Trustees in bringing in and contracting entertainment venues. Hope to see you on our Karaoke Night on Fridays, unless otherwise posted, and Band Nights on Saturday nights. Updated schedules are posted on the Electronic Bulletin Board as well as a “monthly look” on the bar in the lounge. If you have recommendations for entertainment groups, please call the Post Lounge and leave a note/message for me, OR, better yet, come in and leave your note with me. Service Officer Comments: We have access to a lot of services both civil and former Military assistance programs. I may be contacted by leaving messages of your needs and concerns at the Lounge, and I will get in touch with you as soon as possible. Steve Gerth.
Adj. Comments: With the Post computer system up, online and working well, and the reinstitution of providing a Post NewsLetter, to aid in postage, if you desire, you can get it by e-mail. Send your e-mail requesting to be added to the NewsLetter address book to: c/o Adjutant: at this e-mail amvets3@metrocast .net .Your address will be secure. In addition, the Post is selling “NewsLetter” add space: business card size space is $5.00 per news letter, or $15 per year. Proceeds will assist in off-setting the cost of the news letter. Leave your business card and money with the Bar Tender, or give directly to Peter Joy, Chuck Kelley or Cathy Markland. Post will soon have a web page! Trustees: Lounge activities are going well. The Post sponsors 2 8-Ball and 2 9-Ball Pool teams that play on Tuesday and Thursday nights, Points of Contact: Steve Gerth and Bill Dore, come on down and watch these great teams. We also are sponsoring a Dart League this year, and the Point of Contact is Gary Poisson, and there is a Dart Team sign up board posted in the Lounge. More functions will be forth coming. Lounge Manager: Joan Vigue: We appreciate your patronage!! In the calendar, specific groups are entertainment eves are posted. Come in, and enjoy our daily special beverages. I make attempts to make the daily special different each day. We are pleased to announce a Sunday drawing for a Hannaford Food Store $50.00 gift card, tickets: 1 for $1.00, 6 for $5.00, with overall extra funds to go towards Thanksgiving baskets. We now have a Popcorn Popping Machine in the Lounge, come and enjoy freshly popped popcorn. AMVETS 6 month Lotto Calendars are now in: $15.00 each!! Thanks.- Joan.

President’s Comments: I wish to thank the Ladies Auxiliary for their confidence in electing me as President. With your support, we shall grow in stature. June 18th and July 25th we had yard sales!! They were very successful, and enjoyed the full support of the Post and Sons. A special thank you to Irene Clough, Connie Pettis, Mona Hubbard and Shirley Girard. If I have missed anyone who helped, I apologize. If you know of anyone who would like to join the Auxiliary please see Irene Clough or Kelley Dore. York County Marines Detachment 1341 thanks AMVETS POST 3 for your support in allowing our organization to have our monthly meetings at your Post. It really shows how Veteran Service Organizations in Sanford/Springvale area help and support each other. It truly is appreciated. York County Marines has our monthly meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 1800. We would also like to thank AMVETS Post 3 for your support with this past Holiday Season’s Toys for Tots drive. Your Post alone was able to raise over $200.00 in toys helping Toys for Tots to provide 1500 children in the Sanford/Springvale area with something to unwrap Christmas morning. USS JAMES K. POLK VETERAN’S ASSOCIATION
The James K. Polk Veterans Association is made up of over 1,000 former USS James K. Polk (SSBN/SSN 645) from Pre-Commissioning to De-Commissioning. The Sail of our Submarine is being renovated at the new National Museum of Nuclear Science and History (part of the Smithsonian Institution program), located in Albuquerque, NM. The Museum needs financial donations to bring this project to completion.
