Dear Senator King:

Hello,

I am writing to you to make you aware that myself and my fellow veterans
are concerned about their VA Healthcare. As a life member of the DAV and
VVA and someone who held office in both of these organizations I have
contact with many veterans. We are all hoping that our VA heath care is
not gutted. The VA Heathcare System understands veterans health issues
better than anyone. They deal with more varied veteran specific medical
issues than anyone.

Today is a good example of what would happen if veterans were “given
control of their own healthcare”. Veteran’s Choice Program gave me an
authorization to see my local doctor for a respiratory condition. I asked
the doctor if the clinic was ready to handle all the area veterans should
the VA healthcare System be gutted. He told me, “We can hardly keep up
with the civilian patients we have.” New patients seeking first time
appointments have along wait. He went on to say their is a shortage of
doctors.

If the countries clinics are flooded by dislocated veterans we will not
get the treatment we need as well or as quickly as we do at the VA because
the country, especially in downeast Maine is already operating at full
capacity.

Please consider how let down us veterans will become if such changes are
implemented. Please fight to keep our heath care at he VA.

Please send me a reply with your thoughts and position in regard to this
issue.

Thank you,
Theodore L. Pietz

Sincerely,

Theodore L. Pietz
